The bridge changed the surroundings, or to say, the bridge and its surroundings were changed by the development of the city. Below is a graph comparing the streets along the canal between in 1858 and in 2018.

In 1858, we can see that the roadways were much more complicated than that of the roadways today. The Scalzi bridge allowed easier access for people to cross from one side to the next and is one of the most utilized ways to do so. It made it easier for people to reach Venice, which in turn increased tourism and access to the island. Not only did this allow for access to the island, but allowed for businesses to boom and for shops and hotels to thrive.
