About this project

This project calls for people’s attention to the nature around us. It’s created for an intro-level art class. The project was named and students were required to create five panels of whatever art form they chose to express a certain theme.

Challenge

Time is intense. I was given only two days to finish this 5-panel project which requires both nice details and a professional look.

Continuity is required. The five panels should be uniform in style but at the same time distinctive enough to be viewed as separate pieces.

Solutions

With not too much time to work, I decided to exert a simple and clean style. I abandoned the original idea of creating mini models, which was too time-consuming, and took the method I’m most familiar with–hand drawing.

I was wandering around the campus when considering which theme to pick. The blossom flowers and the busy squirrels composed a beautiful and lively sunny afternoon; however, no one was paying attention to them. This inspired me and I decided to do something related to nature.

In terms of continuity, I drew all the ‘life’ in the similar style using color pencil and used part of the human body in each frame. The composition and the way I use negative space in each piece makes the panels echo to each other.

The result

This is not a masterpiece and is somehow too simple. Some details are not perfect enough. However, consider the limited time I have for this project, this final product makes me content. The combination of designer’s technique and artist’s technique looks fine. It’s an interesting experiment.
