class project
About this project
It’s an assignment for an art class. The project requirement is to create a cinematic space using preferred art forms.
At first, I tried to do what I’m most comfortable with — drawing or painting. However, I read about mini sculpture and was inspired by Japanese mini-model artists. I decided to push my limit and try new stuff.
The whole model was made by adding clays on the surface of some nicely cut foam boards, then carving and coloring the clay to imitate the old stone bricks.
Challenge
I’ve never tried mini-model before, neither did I have any ceramic sculpture experience.
I had only one week to finish the whole project, which includes the material shopping and the final presentation. Time is very limited.
Solutions
I did a lot of research and borrowed some mini-model books from the library. I quickly decided to make a model of a house ruin because I can get the materials easily and it’s accomplishable for a beginner.
The process was fun. Although I encountered a lot of problems, I still completed a final piece.
